Tour specific information

In what area should I stay?

Sultanahmet is the place to stay and there are plenty of hostels to choose from. Sultanahmet square is the heart of the old city and contains sites such as the Aya Sofya (Hagia Sophia in Greek, Sancta Sophia in Latin, Saint Sophia in English, Aya Sofya in Turkish), Blue Mosque, Topkapi palace, Hippodrome, Underground Cistern and ancient city walls.

How do I get to Sultanahmet and the Fez office?

We can book private transfers or shuttles for you, but if you want to do your own thing, a taxi is the easiest but most expensive way to get to Sultanahmet from the airport. A taxi should cost around 40YTL (approx 20Euro) with 'gunduz' (day time rates - from 7 am till midnight). Every 30 seconds the taxi meter should flash 'gunduz'. This means the meter is charging day rates. If the driver sets the meter to night rates, 'gece' (night) flashes up and you will pay double. If this happens, try repeating the word 'gunduz' (goondooz) a few times and hope for the best. If you get a taxi driver that has done the right thing with the meter and helped you with your bags, a tip of 1-2 Euro will be appreciated and hopefully encourage such behaviour.

The best way to the Fez office is to take the Metro from the airport. Go out the front doors and you will see signs to the 'light rail system'. Cost is 1.50 YTL (.75 Euro), and there is only 1 line. Once on the metro you have two options:

Sultanahmet map

From the tram stop, walk down the wide promenade in between the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofya (hard to miss). As you pass all the touts and the Aya Sofya, you come to a T inter section where you should go left. You will come to an entrance for Topkapi palace where you must follow the road down the hill and around to the right. Take the second street on your right and as you walk down it, you will pass the Orient Hostel (www.orienthostel.com) on the left, 2 doors down is the Fez office and then the Sultan Hostel (www.sultanhostel.com). The Sultan hostel and Orient hostel can be found in most guide books.

The Fez Office in Istanbul is located at :-
Akbiyik Cad. No: 17
Sultanahmet

  • Booking Accommodation

The Fez Bus is a door to door travel network and nearly all the designated stops in each town are at our specially selected and recommended accommodation points.

Each day your on board Fez Bus tour leader can arrange accommodation for you at the hostels/pensions that we stay at; all have private rooms as well as dorms. Alternately you can stay anywhere you want, you just need to make your way from and to the pick up point for your next departure.

We try to find the best value budget accommodation point in each town, but if budget is not your preference, than your on-board tour leader can just as easily arrange 3, 4 or 5 star accommodation and you can hop off and hop on at that door instead.

Our accommodation points hold rooms for us so there is no need to pre-book but if you prefer to, check out our accommodation page for all of their contact details. The only exception to this rule is Istanbul. We will always be able to get you a bed in Istanbul but private hostel rooms are rare, so if your after a bit of privacy than it is best to prebook a few days in advance.

    Gulets and Add ons

If you haven't heard about them yet - you will! A Gulet (pronounced goo-let, not gul-et) is a traditional hand-made Turkish boat, which is perfect for cruising the beautiful Aegean and Mediterranean seas. With full board accommodation on the yacht, the gulet trips are unbelievable value.

We only need 3 days notice (72 hours) to make your booking for a particular departure date, allowing you to keep your itinerary as open as possible. Though, if you are travelling with limited time during the peak of the season, we recommend that you book as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Our gulet trips are a great add on to your hop on hop off pass, but they are not the only ones to consider. If you have a little extra time available in your trip, consider heading out east to see the ancient Hittite heads of Mt Nemrut and the birthplace of Abraham on our "Eastern Explorer" tour. These and many other tours and activities can be arranged by your tour leader on the bus. You just sit back and enjoy the ride.

How much will I spend along the way ?

It is difficult to advise you specifically on how much you will need as it depends on how much you eat, drink and shop, also what activities interest you.

    As a guide:
    Kebab 3-6 TL
    Average meal- 10-15 TL
    Large Beer - 5-7 TL
Glass of Wine - 6-10 TL

    Popular activities

The most popular activities along the way are:

    Troy entrance 15 TL
    Pergamum entrance 20 TL
    Ephesus tour 45 Euro
    Pamukkale tour 45 Euro
    Koycegiz night cruise 25 TL
    Paragliding 95 Euro
    Fethiye day cruise 30 TL
4 day Gulet cruise 165-195 Euro
    Cappadocia tours 30 Euro
    Turkish night 25 Euro
Hot Air Balloons 160 Euro-230 Euro

    Travel planning

You may find our travel planner at http://www.feztravel.com/Fez_Bus_Planner.asp helpful in planning your trip.

Remember to check your departure times as well as your departure date. Some of our departure times have been organised to allow you enough time to see the major attractions of the area, without the need to stay extra nights.

Also don't forget that our last sector is an overnight bus, saving you time and money. Please take a moment to read our 'how it works' page
