Welcome to Baku! Today is arrival day. You will be met at the airport an transfered to you hotel. The reminder of the day is free time.
Today we will start to explore Baku and our first stops are Shirvanshah's Palace, Maidan Tower, Ateshgah and Carpet Museum. After lunch break we drive to Absheron Peninsula, and visit the Burning mountain Yanar Dag, Mardakan Castle and Ramana Castle.
After breakfast we will drive to Gobustan and visit Gobustan National Park. Then continue to Shamakhi and visit the Diribaba Mausoleum. In the afternoon we will visit Juma-Mosque (Friday Mosque) of Shamakhi city, Seven Domes - the complex of tombs built for Shirvan's royal family in 18th C.
Morning visit of the Sheki Khan's Palace and after lunch break, we will drive to to Lagodegkhi Border and visit Gremi Architectural Complex (16th C - 17th C) and continue on to Tbilisi.
Tbilisi, the city that has been dominated by traders, warriors, tyrants and dictators in turn. Take a walk around the old town and breathe in the living past. Today we will visit Metekhi Church, Georgian Synagogue, Sioni Cathedral, Anchiskhati Basilica, Narikhala Fortress and Sulphur Baths, high in sulphurs and other minerals, with a constant temperature of 38C to 40C.
Today we will explore picturesque and the most fertile part of Georgia, Kakheti. The region is known as a birthplace of viticulture and wine making. We will head to Bodbe Nunnery (9th C), the place where St. Nino, the 4th C female evangelist of Georgians is buried. Then we will head to Sighnaghi, we will enjoy lunch and wine tasting at the local winery. Explore Sighnaghi fortified town famous for its wine and carpet making culture. Enjoy breathtaking views of Kizikhi area and the unusual charm of Sighnaghi Royal Town. Take a walk in narrow streets of the town in shadow of wooden balconies richly decorated with the lace of carved ornaments.
In the morning we drive to Mtskheta ‐ the ancient capital of Georgia, located a short distance outside Tbilisi. First we visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and then we visit a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jvari monastery, a 6th C cross‐shaped monastery built on the top of a cliff, overlooking the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers. We then drive along Georgian Military Highway and visit Ananuri Architectural complex, former residence of Dukes of Aragvi region.
We continue our journey and explore Khevi province, the heart of the country, known for its severe nature and numerous architectural monuments and archaeological sites. Arrive in Stepantsminda – a small town with the views of Mt. Kazbek ‐ the seventh highest pea inthe Caucasus Mountains. Hike to Gergeti Holy Trinity Church located at an elevation of 2170m. under Mt. Kazbegi. The walk takes about 3 hours (Drive up to Gergeti Church by 4WD on supplementary basis).
Today we drive to the center of Shida Kartli region, Gori, known as the birthplace of the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. Visit Stalin’s Museum in Gori where you can see the house, where Stalin was born and his personal railway carriage. Visit Uplistsikhe ("Fortress of God") rock‐hewn town (1st Millennium BC). Uplistsikhe is located on the left bank of Mtkvari river and is notable for unique combination of various styles of rock‐cut cultures and the coexistence of Pagan and Christian architecture.
We continue our trip and visit Vardzia Cave Complex, the complex became a well fortified monastery, which had a significant role in political, cultural, educational and spiritual life of Georgia. Then we will drive to Yerevan, stopping along the way for a photo stop at Khertvisi Fortress.
Our first visit is the Echmiadzin Cathedral, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon we return to Yerevan for an afternoon city tour including visits of the Matenadaran Museum and Tsitsernakaberd - the memorial complex dedicated to the victims of the Great Armenian Genocide.
Visit Garni Hellenistic temple and Geghard Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon we visit Khor-Virap - "Deep Dungeon", one of the holiest sites in Armenia before returning to Yerevan.
After breakfast we will head towards to Lake Sevan, one of the largest high-altitude lakes in the world and visit the Sevan Monastery. In the afternoon, we drive to Alaverdi and visit Haghpat Monastery before returning back to Tbilisi.
Our tour concludes and your time is free until you are transferred to the airport.
